Matthea Harvey Collaborative Comic

Loaded Bicycle‘s new issue is live! This issue includes my collaborative poetry comic with the extremely talented Matthea Harvey.

The issue is wonderful, to get started I also recommend Kate MacDowell, Tricia Taaca, Gabriella Barouch or C.A. Conrad.

Also, find the BONUS material for a me-related surprise.

The comic is the tallest I’ve ever made measuring 5 3/4 feet tall.

It was a pleasure and an honor to work with Matthea, and a special thank you to the children of the Summer Youth Musical Theater Program of Globe, AZ for posing as models for the comic.

“Game for Anything” Leftovers

Drew this for Matthea Harvey‘s poem “Game for Anything” that I comic-ed for Loaded Bicycle. I didn’t put it in the final comic because even though it came out well, the face didn’t look at all right for the character. Eh, what are you going to do?

raccoon renaissance – 2

Raccoon Renaissance is a poem using the prisoner’s constraint drawn into several comics using the same constraint.

For the first installment and explanations of OuBaPo comics and OuLiPo’s prisoner’s constraint.

raccoon renaissance – 1

This is the first part of a longer poem that I wrote using the oulipian prisoner’s constraint. This constraint prohibits you from using letters with arms or tails (b, d, f, g, h, j, k, l, p, q, t, or y). I understand it takes its name from a prisoner’s need to fit as much writing on a single sheet of paper, which is limited, as possible. It can be a deceptively difficult exercise, I suggest everyone attempt it.

I have been hoping to start making some OuBaPo comics. I decided to wade in by taking a OuLiPo constraint and making it an OuBaPo constraint. The comics equivalent of the prisoner’s constraint, I felt, would be to make a comic that did not have any portion of any character outside of the frame. This, however, did not prove very constraining and; therefore, was not a very interesting challenge. I’m still happy with the result but will have to attempt something more limiting in the future.

Do you have any suggestions for other ways of interpreting the prisoner’s constraint into comics?

Stay tuned for the remaining parts.

Toddlers & Tiaras & Vermin

Just finished another poem comic. Here’s a section of it. I’m hoping to find a good home for it. If you have any suggestion of lit mags that take comics, please let me know.
